Winter Blues!

First Lady Melania Trump alongside President Trump welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan to the White House Wednesday afternoon.

For the welcoming, Melania braved the freezing cold weather in Washington D.C. wearing a wintry blue coat by Altuzarra. The double-breasted three-quarter wool coat features a tailored silhouette hem, notched lapels, glossy black buttons and front flap pockets. It retails for $2,295 and is available for purchase at Nordstrom.com

For footwear, Melania paired the Altuzarra coat that she wore over a black dress with a pair of black patent leather pumps from her go-to shoe brand — Christian Louboutin. The glossy pump retails for $695 on Net-a-porter.com.

While Melania stood out in baby blue, the Turkish first lady donned a double-breasted white vest coat over a white turtleneck and matching wide legged pants. Emine topped off her look with white shoes, an ornate broach that was pinned to the lapel of her vest, and a floral headscarf that covered her hair.

The presidents, on the other hand, both had on navy wool coats over their navy suits. Trump had on a red tie, his go-to color when wearing a tie, while Erdoğan opted for a purple tie.

Trump and Erdoğan discussed Turkey’s decision to purchase a Russian S-400 air defense system, which the U.S. had warned was not compatible with NATO forces and could serve to aid Russian intelligence. They also discussed Turkey’s invasion of Syria after Trump ordered the withdrawal of U.S. troops from northern Syria in October, a decision that was met with widespread bipartisan condemnation. As retaliation for the invasion, Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions and visa bans on top Turkish officials along with increasing tariffs on Turkish steel imports and would halt negotiations on a major trade deal with the country.

“Over the course of the day, President Erdoğan and I had a frank and productive conversation on a range of very important topics,” Trump said in a joint press conference after the bilaterial meeting. “Among those topics we discussed was the situation in Syria. Today, the ceasefire continues to hold.  And I want to thank the President for his partnership and cooperation as we work to build a more stable, and peaceful, and prosperous Middle East.”

On Turkey’s decision to purchase S-400, Trump announced no resolutions on the trade deal or S-400 was made today and they agreed to work toward the trade agreement in the future.

“The United States and Turkey are working extensively on many other security issues,” Trump said. “Turkey’s acquisition of sophisticated Russian military equipment, such as the S-400, creates some very serious challenges for us, and we are talking about it constantly.  We talked about it today.  We’re talking about it in the future.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to resolve that situation.”

He added, “We’ve asked our Secretary of State, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and our respective national security advisors to immediately work on resolving the S-400 issue.”

Trump invited five Republican senators to meet with Erdoğan at the White House: Sens.Lindsey Graham, Jim Risch, Ted Cruz, Joni Ernst, and Rick Scott.
