First Lady Melania Trump made an unannounced surprise visit to a fire station in Washington D.C. last Wednesday to deliver lunch and show her support to “critical first responders who put their lives at risk” each and every day.
For the visit, Melania wore a blue and white striped shirt dress from Rachel Roy. The stripe maxi shirtdress is a classic version that features a shirt collar neckline, long sleeves, exposed button front closure, a tie waist for a feminine structure look, and a slit on the side of the hem. It retailed for $139, but unfortunately, it is unavailable for purchase. However, Rent The Runaway has this Rachel Roy shirtdress available to rent for a one-time rental for four days if one doesn’t have a membership with this rental site for $30.
She completed her look stepping out wearing a pair of white Roger Vivier ballet flats. The Roger Vivier Gommetine ballet flats features a pointed-toe silhouette, glossed-leather and the label’s signature buckle-inspired embellishment. It retails for $695 and is available at MyTheresa.com.

If you love the striped shirt dress style for the summer, below are available affordable finds. Team it up with a pair of white flats to emulate Melania’s outfit of the day look.

During the visit, Melania spent time engaging with firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel from Engine Company 9 and spoke about their work-life about the daily challenges they are facing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The First Lady also met with police officers from the neighboring DC Metropolitan Police Department Third District where she discussed the “strength and resiliency” in their work to build a “safer and stronger connection between neighbors, police and the community.”
“The President and I will continue to support our dedicated firefighters, police members, EMS personnel and other critical first responders who put their lives at risk each day in order to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Melania said. “We are grateful for their teamwork, professionalism, and courage, and the vital role they play in communities throughout the country.”
According to the readout released by the First Lady’s office, Melania delivered a donation of packaged boxed lunches that were prepared by White House chefs. She also handed out Be Best tote bags, reusable face masks and hand sanitizer to the fire and police personnel.

“Today I met w/ @dcfireandems & @DCPoliceDept members at Engine Company 9 fire station to drop off face masks, boxed lunches & other #BeBest items to show my appreciation for their work to provide critical life-saving services to keep our local communities healthy, secure & safe,” Melania tweeted last week along with sharing photos from the visit.
