First Lady Melania Trump alongside President Donald Trump hosted the annual Governor’s Ball in the East Room of the White House on Sunday.

Walking hand-in-hand, President Trump praised Melania for her preparations for the black-tie event.
“This is my fourth one with our First Lady, and I want to thank the First Lady for having done such a beautiful job with the settings and all of the things,” Trump said. “She works very hard on these things, so I want to thank her very much.”
In his brief remarks, Trump touted the success of his administration, mentioning recent trade teals with China, Mexico, Canada, and Japan and South Korea and telling the governor’s their state’s will reap the benefits and rewards.
“As you know, last week, we made our deal with China. We made our deal with Japan a couple of weeks before that — $40 billion. We made a tremendous USMCA deal with Mexico and Canada. We’ve totally renegotiated the deal with South Korea,” Trump said. “It was not a good deal for the United States; now it’s a great deal for the United States. And many other things, all inuring to the benefit of your states and to you as governors.”
Governors that attended the event were Democrat Governors from Louisiana, Gov. John Bel Edwards, Phil Murphy of New Jersey and Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a moderate Republican who considered challenging Trump for the party’s presidential nomination. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is very close to Trump, scored a seat at the head table with the president and Melania.
In addition to the president and first lady, other attendees from the Trump administration included Vice President Mike Pence; acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson; Transportation Secretary Secretary Elaine Chao; and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
