First lady Melania Trump marked the first anniversary of a federal law increasing access to treatment for opioid addicts with her first solo trip to Capitol Hill.
Looking business ready, Melania wore a taupe pantsuit by Max Mara. The sleek tailored pantsuit is from Max Mara Resort 2020 off-the-runway collection. She left her blazer jacket unbutton that revealed a plain brown high-neck blouse. The pantsuit is not available for purchase, but there is a very similar blazer from the label available at Net-A-Porter retailing for $1,790.
She paired the stylish piece carrying a matching beige Christian Louboutin men’s briefcase and brown patent leather pointed-toe pumps. The Streetwall briefcase it retails for $2,250 and is available for purchase in black at Bergdorf Goodman.
Leading a roundtable discussion on opioids with lawmakers in the Capitol, Melania convened the meeting to mark the one-year anniversary of her husband, President Trump signing the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. The legislation is a comprehensive policy that provides funding and guidance for assisting in the fight against opioid abuse. Participants included mostly Republican members of the House and Senate and one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, whose home state has the nation’s highest overdose rate. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar and President Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway were also in attendance.
Giving a brief remark, Melania highlighted several policies of the SUPPORT Act closely align with her BE BEST initiative including how the legislation provides support to drug-dependent mothers and babies who have neonatal abstinence syndrome.
“Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome or NAS — is an area I have focused on and this Act provides support to mothers and their infants born with NAS,” Melania said in her remarks. “Because of the SUPPORT Act, we are able to look at ways to reduce opioid use during pregnancy and recognize early childhood issues related to substance abuse. I have seen the devastating effects that this crisis has on families and children. This is why the SUPPORT act is so important. It provides the necessary tools to fight this crisis.”
Following her remarks, members of Congress shared how the Act continues to affect their local communities in the fight to reduce drug abuse. The discussion addressed the overall addiction and mental health issues involved in this drug crisis. The conversation also touched on the successful ways that law enforcement has stopped the influx of drugs. Several members praised the supportive bipartisan nature in passing legislation to help end the crisis.
“Today on the Hill was a great opportunity to acknowledge the incredible work the Administration is doing in our communities and throughout this nation to end the drug crisis through the SUPPORT Act,” a readout of Melania meeting with members of Congress reads. “It also served as a continued call to action for members of Congress to continue building on what is working and identifying ways that all levels of government can support the effort. I look forward to working together with Congress to continue providing support to families suffering from this terrible crisis.”
