First Lady Melania Trump on Monday attended the annual Toys for Tots event hosted by the Marine Corps at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C.
Looking festive, Melania wore a cream sweater paired with a striped red and ivory midi skirt from Gucci. The pinstripe Gucci skirt is made from wool that features a leather belt at the waist and row of logo-embellished buttons under the front panel. It retails for $1,980 and is available for purchase at Net-A-Porter.com.
She paired the Gucci skirt with a knee-length red leather boots from Victoria Beckham. The red tall boot is made from calf leather and features a stacked heel and minimalist silhouette. It retailed for $1,535, but unfortunately it is now sold out.
This is the third time Melania has volunteered at the Toys for Tots events where she helped children make holiday cards that will be included in each gift. During her time sitting with the children, she affectionately pulled one young girl onto her lap and helped her decorated the holiday card.
The White House revealed that the first lady is donating books to the Toys for Tots literacy program this holiday season, just like she did the year before.
She handed out white backpack bearing the slogan of her signature child welfare initiative “Be Best” to the children at the base, the second year in a row that she has done so.
After helping the children make cards and sorted through the toys, Melania took to the stage to speak to the military personnel at the base. She stated the annual toy drive is one of her “favorite event” during the holiday season.
“It is great to be back here to support this important Christmas tradition,” Melania said. “The Marine’s Toys for Tots is one of my favorite events during the Christmas season.”
Melania encouraged all Americans to consider ways they gave give back to their own communities this holiday season.
“Whether it’s a Christmas gift to a child in London, donating school supplies to children in Africa, assembling comfort kits for troops deployed overseas, or showing kindness to a stranger, your actions can forever change the lives of someone in need,” Melania said. “The Toys for Tots program has proven that the idea to give back is timeless and can be done at all ages.”
She also thanked all of the children who were there to help out and praised all the servicemen for the sacrifices they and their families make for this country.
The Toys for Tots program was started 72 years ago by Marine Corps Reserve Maj. Bill Hendricks. According to Toys for Tots, the goal of the program is to “bring the joy of Christmas” and “send a message of hope” to less fortunate American children. The organization now distributes an average of 18 million toys annually to seven million less fortunate children.
