First Lady Melania Trump alongside President Donald Trump celebrated their third Halloween at the White House, greeting trick-or-treaters and handing out Halloween candy Monday night.
Not dressed in costume, Melania donned a patchwork leather trench coat from Michael Kors. From the Fall 2019 Collection, the collared leather trench is tailored with neutral patchwork mosaic pattern inspired from the 1970s. The trench coat in a princess-cut silhouette features an elongated collar and front patch pockets. It retails for $5,990 and is available at MichaelKors.com.
The White House was decorated with a haunted forest theme. Silhouetted cutouts of large, black trees with creepy bare branches were placed on the columns of the White House South Portico, lit a ghoulish orange; dozens of pumpkins lined the curved staircases. The Air Force Strolling Strings played “Thriller” from Michael Jackson, “The Addams Family” theme song, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones theme, along with other spooky tunes to set the mood.
Other agencies were also in attendance joining in on the Halloween fun, with the Secret Service showing off the presidential limo known as “The Beast” for the children to check out and NASA displaying the suit that astronauts wear for spacewalks. The Department of the Interior gave out Junior Ranger Explorer and Fishing books, badges, and stickers.
Celebrating Halloween at the White House and handing out candy to children is a long time tradition for the president and first lady. According to the White House Historical Association, Mamie Eisenhower in 1958 first started celebrating the holiday at the executive mansion, but the Nixons started the tradition of inviting local children to participate.
