Senior Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump headed to Capitol Hill to meet with Republican Lawmakers Tuesday morning, as House Democrats the same time unveils bring articles of impeachment against her father, President Donald Trump.
Stepping out in a check coat, Ivanka was seen wearing a black and white checked houndstooth pattern tweed coat dress by London designer Suzannah. Known as the Hunter coat, the woven check dress-coat was inspired by a vintage hunting coat. It features a tailored bodice with high back neck pitch, contrasting velvet buttons, and a fluid circular skirt part that falls below the knees. It retails for $2297 and is available at Suzannah.com.
During her meeting with Republican lawmakers, Ivanka said she spoke to them about permanent reauthorization of funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which she said the administration is “cautiously optimistic” about, paid family leave and the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on trade.
“USMCA is an unbelievably important trade deal, and I can’t overstate that,” Ivanka told a room of lawmakers. “And it has sat there collecting dust for roughly a year. So the commitment to move this forward for a vote, which the American people want, is very significant.”
Shortly after the meeting, Senate Democrats and Republicans passed $255 million education funding bill that will permanently restore funding to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and schools that serve large numbers of minority students. The amended bipartisan bill grants permanent funding for HBCUs and Minority Serving Institutions; simplifies the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 20 million American families; and streamlines income-driven repayment for nearly 8 million borrowers. More than 100 schools are designated HBCUs. The funding will mostly support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs for minority institutions.
Ivanka tweeted her thanks to bipartisan members in Congress for “securing passage of this important legislation & presidential priority.”

On the impeachment announcement that occurred the same time she met with GOP lawmakers, Ivanka said it was “a predetermined outcome” by Democrats and a “coincidence” that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to announce she reached a compromise with the House on a trade deal just minutes after Democrats revealed articles of impeachment.
“Do you think that’s a coincidence?” Ivanka said in an interview with McClatchy. “We focus on that which we can control. This was a predetermined outcome for the Democrats. What we can control is the work we’re doing to advance the American peoples’ agenda, creating jobs, creating a climate for growth, and that’s where our energies are focused. So, I can only speak to our priorities. But I think the Democrats’ priorities are quite clear.”
This Thursday, Ivanka, along with Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar, is scheduled to host a White House roundtable to discuss paid leave. She will be hosting governors, parents, private-sector paid leave advocates, administration officials and lawmakers.
Among the lawmakers invited to her paid family leave summit this week are Democrats who have put forward different versions of legislation on the issue. Reps. Colin Allred, D-Texas, and Joe Cunningham, D-S.C., are expected to participate. Maloney was invited to attend a portion of the summit, as was Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.
