President Trump lashed out at Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) for having “gone rogue” after he decried the president’s executive action over the weekend.
“RINO Ben Sasse, who needed my support and endorsement in order to get the Republican nomination for Senate from the GREAT State of Nebraska, has, now that he’s got it (Thank you President T), gone rogue, again,” Trump tweeted. “This foolishness plays right into the hands of the Radical Left Dems!”

Trump on Saturday signed three executive actions and one executive order targeting aimed at providing enhanced unemployment benefits, deferring payroll tax payments, and providing student loan and federal eviction relief after talks with Congress on a coronavirus relief package collapsed. Top congressional Democrats and White House officials met over a span of 11 times over a two week period, but both sides left without any compromise over a number of issues.
Sasse issued a scathing statement criticizing the president unilaterally action as “unconstitutional slop.”
“The pen-and-phone theory of executive lawmaking is unconstitutional slop,” Sasse said in a statement. “President Obama did not have the power to unilaterally rewrite immigration law with DACA, and President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally rewrite the payroll tax law. Under the Constitution, that power belongs to the American people acting through their members of Congress.”
Shortly after Trump tweet, the Nebraska Republican responded via his campaign Twitter account with a lengthy message, saying his disagreements with the President was not personal, but stood by his criticism “on the topic that had you mad this weekend.”

I understand that you’re mad. A few thoughts….
⁰⁰(1) As we’ve discussed before, I don’t think Twitter is the best place to do this. But, since you moved our conversation from private to public, here we are.

“I understand you’ve been frustrated I didn’t join your re-election campaign & that I ran a primary ad admitting to Nebraskans that we sometimes agree and sometimes disagree,” Sasse wrote. “You also know I never asked for your endorsement nor did I use it in the campaign. None of my disagreements are personal (In fact, you know — from our many conversations, even in the last few weeks — that I care about you personally and have tried to help you repeatedly, even on issues where our prudential judgments differ widely.”
“Now on the topic that had made this weekend: No president — whether named Obama or Trump or Biden or AOC — has unilateral power to rewrite immigration law or to cut taxes or to raise taxes. This is because America doesn’t have kings,” Sasse continued adding the section of the Constitution regarding who passes the laws and who executes the laws.
Sasse signed the note “Gym Rat,” a nickname Trump gave the Nebraska Senator in 2016.
He also included a link in the tweet of his campaign ad, titled “Straight Shooter,” where the narrator says Sasse “ticked off a lot of folks these past six years from the radical left to every now and then even the president from his own party.”

August 12, 2020Sasse needs to resign. He crosses the president on some of the most important moves the president makes. The AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED HELP DURING THIS PANDEMIC AND ARE NOT GETTING IT FROM CONGRESS–ESPECIALLY PEOPLE LIKE YOU, MR. SASSE. If you are going to support the Democrats, then why not join their party?
