Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), calling him a “dumb son of a bitch” during remarks at a donor retreat gathering over the weekend while vowing to help Republicans win back both chambers of Congress in 2022.
During a dinner soiree for Republican National Committee donors held at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump addressed over hundreds of top donors where he reserved much of his attacks towards the GOP leader, calling him a “stone-cold loser” as he blamed McConnell for not blocking the Senate’s certification of the 2020 election results.
“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a bitch Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” Trump said in the final night of the RNC retreat, according to leaked remarks.
“They would have fought it,” Trump added, referring to the 2020 election as “bullshit.”
This isn’t been the first time Trump has lashed out at the GOP leader since leaving office. After being acquitted in his second impeachment trial and following McConnell Senate floor remarks where he blamed the former president for the Jan.6 Capitol riots despite voting to acquit, Trump released a statement bashing the Kentucky Senator as “a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.”
Trump spoke for about 55 minute off-script remarks where he also attacked many of his favorite targets, including Dr. Fauci where he savaged the nation’s leading infectious disease doctor as “so full of crap” giving him bad advice on the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic. He also poked fun at Fauci’s pitching arm during last year’s opening day game for the Washington Nationals.
The former president mentioned that someone recently suggested to him that the COVID vaccine should be called “Trumpcine” due to Operation Warp Speed that helped accelerate the development of the vaccine in record time.
On the border crisis, Trump condemned the situation and referenced suspected terrorist on the FBI watch list that have been reported caught attempting to illegally cross the open southern border.
“They’re coming in from the Middle East. They’re not sending their best people. You have murderers, you have rapists, you have drug dealers,” he said
The RNC paid more than $100,000 to the Mar-a-Lago club to hold the dinner soiree with the rest of the Spring retreat meeting at the nearby Four Seasons Resort. Trump was reported to be invited earlier this year along with other potential 2024 candidates and Republican leaders to the three-day retreat, which was held at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach.
The former president in his off-script remarks vowed to also help Republicans win back the majority in Congress in 2022.
“I stand before you this evening filled with confidence that in 2022, we are going to take back the House and we are going to reclaim the Senate. And then in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House,” Trump said based on the leaked remarks.
He also highlighted the key for GOP victories in 2022 is to build on the gains, stating “the Republican Party will succeed and grow in the future by embracing its destiny as the champion of working-class Americans.”
Trump didn’t rule out a 2024 comeback but informed donors that any talks of him seeking another term in 2024 should wait until after the November 2022 midterm elections. Whether he runs in 2024 or someone else, Trump assured donors that “in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), the only elected official slated to speak alongside the former president will deliver remarks ahead of Trump’s remarks during the cocktail hour.
According to sources, DeSantis before introducing Trump also attack Fauci in his remarks, as well as seizing on corporations who have begun joining with Democrats’ fight against GOP-backed voting legislation moving through state legislatures across the country. The Florida governor warned business leaders that there would be “consequences” for those who are pressured by Florida lawmakers, just like those who caved in Georgia.2022 Midterms2024 ElectionBorder CrisisCapitol RiotCOVID VaccineDonald TrumpDr. FauciGov.
