Trump: Harris was ‘My Number One Draft Pick’ For Biden’s VP

Posted on

President Trump said Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) was his “number one draft pick” to be named Joe Biden’s running mate while blasting the California Senator for her past comments as “nasty” and “disrespectful” to presumptive Democratic nominee in his first public remarks on the Biden-Harris ticket.

“She was my number one draft pick and we’ll see how she works out,” Trump told reporters, adding that he was also a “little surprised” that Biden would pick Harris because of her “very poorly” performance during the Democratic primary.

“She did very, very poorly in the primaries as you know. She was expected to do well. And she ended up right around 2 percent and spent a lot of money. She had a lot of things happening. So I was a little surprised she picked her.”

The president went on to blast the California Senator for the way that she questioned Justice Brett Kavanaugh Senate during his confirmation hearing, saying she was “extraordinary nasty” towards Kavanaugh, something Trump said he “won’t forget.”

“She was extraordinary nasty to Judge Kavanaugh. I thought she was the meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful of anyone in the Senate. She was nasty to a level that was just a horrible thing, the way she treated now-Justice Kavanaugh and I won’t forget that soon.

He added, “And the horrible way she treated Justice Kavanaugh, that was a horrible event. I thought it was terrible for her, I thought it was terrible for our nation.”

He also added that Harris was also “nasty” to Biden during the Democratic primaries.

“She was very, very nasty to Joe Biden. She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden. It is hard to pick somebody that is disrespectful,” Trump said. “She was probably nastier then even Pocahontas to Joe Biden,” Trump said, referring to Elizabeth Warren. She said things during the debates, during the Democratic primary that were horrible about ‘Sleepy Joe,’ and I would think he wouldn’t have picked her.”

At the press briefing, Trump also reaffirmed his support for Vice President Mike Pence, calling him “fantastic Vice President.”

“I like Vice President Mike Pence much better. He is solid as a rock,” Trump said. “He’s been a fantastic Vice President and he’s done everything you can do. He’s respected by every religious group, they respect Mike Pence. He’s been a great Vice President and I will take him over Kamala.”

Ahead of the briefing, Trump tweeted out a video campaign ad attacking the Biden-Harris ticket and labeling the California Senator as “phony.”

“Voters rejected Harris. They smartly spotted a phony. But not Joe Biden. He’s not that smart,” a narrator in the video says. “Biden calls himself a transition candidate. He is handing over the reins to Kamala while they jointly embrace the radical left. Slow Joe and phony Kamala. Perfect together, wrong for America.”
