House Approves Resolution Restricting Trump’s War Power on Iran

The House of Representatives on Thursday voted to approve a resolution aimed at restricting the President’s ability to use military action against Iran without congressional approval. The measure passed by a nearly party-line vote of 224-194, but there were a few defectors from both sides of the aisle. Mike Lee: Iran Briefing from Trump Administration was ‘Insulting and Demeaning’

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) slammed the administration classified Iran briefing on the strike that killed one of Iran’s top generals, Qassem Soleimani last week, calling the closed-door meeting “insulting and demeaning.” “What I found so distressing about that briefing was that one of the messages we received from the briefers was, ‘Do not debate. Do not discuss the issue of the appropriateness of further military intervention against Iran. And then if you do, you’ll be emboldening Iran,’” Lee told reporters in a heated press conference following the briefing. “I find this insulting and demeaning to the Constitution of the United States.”

House to Vote Thursday on War Powers Resolution

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House will vote Thursday on a resolution limiting President Trump’s military action with Iran without congressional authorization. “Last week, the Trump Administration conducted a provocative and disproportionate military airstrike targeting high-level Iranian military officials,” Pelosi said in a statement Wednesday. “The Administration took this action without consulting Congress. This action endangered our service members, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran.”
