
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is willing to give up his congressional seat if asked to defend President Donald Trump as part of his legal team in the upcoming Senate impeachment trial.
The Senate on Tuesday rejected a motion from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to dismiss the constitutionality of former President Trump’s impeachment trial, but the test vote offered an early preview of how GOP Senator feel about the second impeachment trial as well as the highly unlikely the Senate will have the necessary votes needed to convict Trump.
After a 28-day delay, the House voted Wednesday to send the two articles of impeachment against President Trump to the Senate for a trial that is expected to begin next week. The resolution passed 228-193 largely along party lines. Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) was the only Democrat to vote against the resolution. Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI), who switched from Republican to Independent last year, voted in favor of the resolution.
