Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden while as Vice President was indeed introduced by his son, Hunter Biden to one of his business partners, a top Ukraine business executive, despite repeatedly denying any conflict of interests, according to a stash of smoking-gun emails obtained and revealed by the New York Post.
According to the NY Post, the water damaged MacBook Pro laptop was brought to a Delaware computer shop in 2019 for repair. The store owner doesn’t recall if it was exactly Hunter who brought in the laptop, but the computer was never picked it up once it was fixed, despite repeatedly contacting the client to claim and pay for the service repair. However, the laptop does have a Beau Biden sticker on it, a foundation founded after Biden’s first son and former Delaware attorney general passed away from brain cancer.
The computer store owner gave the trove of copy files that were retrieved from the hard drive to President Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani own lawyer, Robert Costello, after giving the original drive to the FBI last December. Giuliani provided the NY Post the content of the files a few days ago after a former adviser to Trump, Steve Bannon informed the newspaper of its existence over two weeks ago.
According to a newly revealed email, Vadym Pozharskyi, a Burisma adviser personally thanked Hunter in April 2015 for the “opportunity to meet your father,” a year after the younger Biden joined the board as a lobbyist making $50,000 a month.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure,” the email reads.
In the email sent a year prior to meeting the former vice president, Pozharskyi in April 2014 asked Hunter, the newly appointed board member for advice on “how he could use your influence” on the company’s behalf.
Towards the end of 2015, Biden as Vice President pressured Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyu to remove Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, stating the Ukraine Chief was “ineffective and an obstacle to corruption.” During his trip to Kiev in December 2015, Biden threatened to withhold a $1 billion loan from the United States if they didn’t fire Shokin, a threat the former Vice President has bragged about infamously once leaving office.
Biden, in a speech in 2018 to the Council on Foreign Relations said, “I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.”
“Well, son of a bitch. He got fired,” Biden bragged in his speech. “And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.”
By March 2016, the former vice president was able to successfully lobby for the removal of Shokin. Biden has frequently denied that he tried to fire Shokin to stop his investigation of Hunter and the energy gas firm, insisting his removal was due to corrupting concern made by the European Union.
Before his firing, Shokin said in March 2016 that he had made “specific plans” to investigate Burisma that “included interrogations and other crime-investigation procedures into all members of the executive board, including Hunter Biden.”
The emails obtained sheds new light on Hunter’s business dealing with the Ukraine gas company, a central component of Trump’s impeachment probe due to a phone call the president conducted with Ukraine president where Congressional Democrats viewed as an abuse of power by attempting to strong-arm Ukraine for a political favor by investigating his then potential Democratic presidential rival.
Hunter joined the Burisma board in 2014 and served a five-year term, but repeatedly never visited Ukraine for company business in that time.
The laptop also contained very sexually explicit images of Hunter, as well as various photos of the younger son doing drugs at the same time engaging in sexual positions with an unknown woman. The newspaper published only four of the photos, with two of those showing Hunter sleeping in bed smoking a crack pipe. Hunter is known to have a problematic drug past, admitting only after being administratively discharged from the US Navy in 2014 after he tested positive for cocaine.
Giuliani said the FBI had investigated the laptop and the materials stored inside and they did produce a grand jury summons as evidence. However, it is unknown exactly what the FBI investigation was looking into and what they have produced from their findings since.
Biden has previously accused Giuliani of peddling “false, debunked conspiracy theories” regarding his son’s involvement in Ukraine.
Hunter’s lawyer responded to the NY Post article and the leaks by deflecting that Giuliani is continuing to push a “widely discredited conspiracy theories.”
“He has been pushing widely discredited conspiracy theories about the Biden family, openly relying on actors tied to Russian intelligence,” Hunter’s lawyer, George R. Mesires, said.
On the other hand, Biden nor his campaign has yet to respond or address the content of the NY Post article and or the emails.
