Patterned Behavior at NYFW

Fall has started and plaid is back!

I have a love for plaid and this traditional pattern is the quintessential print for Fall, so naturally I wanted to include in one of my New York Fashion Week looks.

I seriously fell in love with this plaid midi skirt and blazer coat from NanaMacs (you may remember my white shorts & gray cardigan combo from them that I wore previously). Seeing this skirt and blazer combo, I just knew I had to have it. This skirt is something out of the ordinary for me and if you know me from my Instagram, you can see I have yet to wear a midi skirt. But as you can see, I just love to spice up my style, try something new and mix it up.

The day I wore this amazing outfit from NanaMacs, I had a few work meetings in the am, followed by NYFW shows and events. I coordinated this outfit to wear to both the work meetings and NYFW (had no time to run home and change). Being that NYFW for many attendees is about showcasing their “outrageous” outfits just to be photographed by street photographer, I decided to be different by taking a classic approach to dressing. I felt like I was Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girls wearing this skirt, playing up the blend of classic preppiness with trendy relevance. XOXO!

Midi skirts are super “trendy,” practical and yet stylish. It is a timeless garment that ideally works both for casual and professional wear. The fit of the skirt is divine. The pattern of the plaid is definitely much cuter than most of the plaid skirts I’ve seen online and in stores. Also the button detail in the middle made the skirt just stand out. It is high-waisted and a true pencil skirt and the material feels medium-thick smooth cotton fabric. Even though it does not show off your legs, you will still find yourself walking seductively in this cute skirt.

The skirt is so versatile and for $38 price point, there’s no need to feel guilty about adding this to your wardrobe!

Since the skirt is plaid, I decided to keep my top simple with a black tank bodysuit from NanaMacs. By wearing a simple top, my overall ensemble was not too loud, and the appropriate amount of attention was given to this fabulous midi skirt.

I paired the tank and skirt with a light gray blazer coat that was slung casually over my shoulder. This blazer coat deserves a shout out because it’s another fantastic find from NanaMacs. You do not have to choose between a blazer or a coat when you are deciding what to wear over your outfit — you have it all in one piece. The loose and easy cut of the coat allows it to fall casually over any piece you are wearing under it. I also like to hang it over my shoulders, another way to present this fashionable piece.

The best part is the price. For only $50, it was a steal, and since blazers are becoming a hot staple item this season, they are becoming a little pricier than usual. This will definitely be on constant rotation this fall season because it is a perfect way to elevate any outfit.

To complete this look, I opted to wear sock boots instead of pumps to spice up my look. Being that I am 5’4, pointed toe heels are a must when wearing a midi skirt. Either pointed too boots or pumps paired to a midi will elongate your legs.

Best believe I will be wearing this skirt again to a work event or conference. A plaid skirt is a staple item and the great thing about plaid is that it is basically a neutral, so you can pair with really any color. When styling a plaid skirt, it is the shoes, the jackets and accessories that make all the outfit’s style difference.
