First lady Melania Trump tested negative for coronavirus and is doing fine, President Trump said at Monday evening White House coronavirus task force briefing.
Asked by a reporter whether his wife had been tested for the coronavirus, Trump responded, “Yes.”
“She’s fine,” Trump told reporters in the White House briefing room Monday evening. “Negative, yes.”
This is the first time the President confirmed his wife was tested for the coronavirus. Both Trumps were tested at the White House on March 13.
“The first lady was tested on the same night as President Trump was tested, out of an abundance of caution. The test was negative,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.
President Trump tested negative for coronavirus last week. He had come in contact with two individuals at his Mar-a-Lago beach club in Florida who had tested positive for the virus.
Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence were tested Saturday after it was revealed that a member of the Vice President’s staff tested positive.
President Trump daughter, Ivanka also tested negative for the coronavirus last week after coming in contact with an Australian official she met with in early March in the White House had tested positive for the virus.
Melania has partake in several public service announcements highlighting the coronavirus pandemic last week. The two PSAs reminded everyone to follow guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sharing the new website, coronavirus.gov where more information could be found.
In the first PSA, the First Lady spoke about reassurance.
“This is not how we will live forever,” Melania said. “I urge you to stay connected … via safe technologies.”
Her second PSA, posted the following day was directed specifically to parents whose children are home “during this time of disruption.” Melania outlined steps like proper hand-washing, maintaining social distance, limiting touching, and letting their children know normal life will resume.
