First Lady Melania Trump delivered a a new public service announcement Monday encouraging America’s children to “make the very best of our days” while being at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In the brief 45 second video message posted her Twitter account, Melania spoke directly to children, suggesting during this “tough time” at home for them to continue learning, reading books, spending time with family while listening and helping their parents.
“Hello to Children everywhere. In this difficult time, while we are far away from our friends, classmates, and extended family members, we should all continue to make the very best of our days,” Melania said. “I encourage you to read books, continue to learn, help with chores, and share some laughter with your family.”
“Together with kindness and care, we will get through this temporary but tough time,” she continued. “Make sure that you listen to your parents about how to stay safe and healthy. We are thinking of you and we are all in this together.”
With schools across the nation suspended indefinitely, millions of parents are faced with the double task of juggling work from home while taking care of their children and making sure they are keeping up with their school assignments remotely.
In recent weeks, Melania has used her Twitter account to provide a steady stream of guidance from the CDC about frequent 20 second hand-washing, wearing a face mask while keeping social distance and other suggestions to avoid the spread of the virus. She also has shared resources from Scholastic for students to learn online, as well as sharing links to sites where astronauts on the International Space Station read story books to children.
On Sunday, the First Lady kept one of her annual traditions alive by sharing a video of herself reading a classic children’s book, “The Little Rabbit” in honor of Easter. The White House canceled the annual 142nd annual Easter Egg Roll last month due to the coronavirus pandemic.
