Former First Lady Melania Trump is establishing her own post-White House office in Palm Beach, Florida, to “maintain her ‘Be Best,'” initiative, according to a report.
According to CNN who cited two sources familiar with her plans, Melania plans to maintain her ‘Be Best‘ campaign, a three-pillared initiative launched in 2018 that focuses on children’s health and well-being, safety online and prevention of social media bullying, and the impact of the opioid crisis on children.
“It concerns me that in today’s fast-paced and ever-connected world, children can be less prepared to express or manage their emotions and oftentimes turn to forms of destructive or addictive behavior, such as bullying, drug addiction, or even suicide,” Trump said when introducing the launch of her first initiative as first lady in May 2018. “I feel strongly that as adults we can and should be best at educating our children about a healthy and balanced life.”
Melania’s new office will have at least three of her former White House staff, including her former director of operations and trip supervisor Hayley D’Antuono who served for four years in this role for the former first lady. She will now serve as Melania’s chief of staff. Mary “Casey” Finzer was a low-level staff assistant in the East Wing office and was tasked with keeping stock of the First Lady’s “gift closet” where gifted items were kept and wrapped to be distributed during Melania’s Be Best events and trip to schools or hospital events. Finzer is now part of the operational and administrative side of Melania’s post-White House team. Marcia Kelly, an unpaid senior adviser to Melania when she was in the White House has also remained loyal and stayed on board for the post-White House office.
All three staff members are now working either remotely or from an office out of former President Donald Trump’s private club, Mar-a-Lago, where the former first family is now living since declaring their residency in 2019. The sources told CNN that Melania is currently looking for separate office space in the Palm Beach area for her post-White House office.
On Monday, Melania’s husband Former president Donald Trump’s formally announced his official post-presidency office to “advance the interests of the United States and to carry on the agenda” of his administration. The office will operate out of Palm Beach County, Florida.
“The Office of the Former President,” according to the press release will serve as the catalyst for setting up and promoting Trump’s upcoming public appearances, correspondence, and statements to “advance the interests of the United States and to carry on the agenda of the Trump administration through advocacy, organizing, and public activism.”
“President Trump will always and forever be a champion for the American People,” the release added.
According to the Former Presidents Act of 1958, a post-presidency office can be set up from the time the president leaves the White House and will be funded from the moment it launches until six months after the former president’s death.
