Melania Trump Encourages Americans to Wear Face Mask in New Public Service Announcement

First Lady Melania Trump shared a new public service announcement photo of herself wearing a face mask, encouraging fellow Americans to “wear cloth face coverings in public setting” to demonstrate the new recommended guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“As the CDC studies the spread of #COVID-19, they recommend people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when social distancing can be hard to do,” Melania tweeted “Remember, this does NOT replace the importance of social distancing.”

The tweet of photo came shortly after Melania posted a video of herself holding the mask while sharing the CDC recommendation.

“As the CDC continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they recommend people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain such as grocery stores and pharmacies. Remember, this does not replace the importance of social distancing. It is another recommended guideline to keep us all safe,” Melania said in a video posted to Twitter.

The first lady’s visual endorsement of wearing a face makes comes after a week after the CDC adjusted its guidance for Americans to wear non-medical cloth coverings when in public as means to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Melania has repeatedly urged all Americans to wear face masks as well as continuing social distancing to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus by tweeting an advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I ask that everyone take social distancing & wearing a mask/face covering seriously,” she tweeted both on Friday and on Sunday.

President Trump was asked during a press briefing about the first lady’s support of face coverings, as he announced he wouldn’t wear one.

“It’s good she feels that way,” Trump responded. “She likes the idea of wearing it, she does. A lot of people do. Again, it’s a recommendation, and I understand that recommendation, and I’m OK with it.”

In recent weeks, Melania has used her Twitter to provide a steady stream of public service announcements of information and guidance during the pandemic as well as calling her female counterparts in U.S.-allied countries that also are struggling to control the virus, including Spain, Canada, France, Italy and Japan.
