Jill Biden’s First Solo TV Interview As First Lady Will Be With Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson, host of The Kelly Clarkson Show announced that she is will be heading to the nation’s Capitol for a sit-down with First Lady Jill Biden. The interview will be Jill’s first solo broadcast interview as First Lady.

The first lady will host Clarkson at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for a “White House edition” of Clarkson’s daytime talk show.

“I’m going to the White House, ya’ll!” Clarkson burst out the announcement in a video tweet revealing the news Wednesday. “First Lady Jill Biden and I are hanging for The Kelly Clarkson Show! I’m so excited!”

The two in the exclusive chat will discuss the new First Lady’s commitment to such issues as education and cancer research,” according to an NBC Universal press release announcement. During the show, there will also be a segment dedicated to audience questions that Jill will answer from the show’s live virtual audience.

The episode will also feature a special “Kellyoke” performance set in the East Room of the White House by Clarkson and her musical director Jason Halbert, in a segment requested by the First Lady. Jill will discuss during the chat interview what inspired her “Kellyoke” song choice selection.

The interview will air next Thursday, Feb. 25 on NBC.

This is Kelly’s first interview of a First Lady, though the daytime talk show is only in its second season. It premiered on September 9, 2019, to replace Steve Harvey’s talk show. However, Kelly’s daytime show has become a massive hit, quickly becoming the most watched new daytime talk show in seven years. In December, the show’s ratings were so high that they tied with the Ellen DeGeneres for third place in talk shows, according to TV News Check, behind only Live with Kelly and Ryan and Dr. Phil.

As for the First Lady, sitting down with the first ever American Idol winner strikes a slightly different tone than what Melania Trump did when she gave her first solo interview to ABC News Chief National Affairs correspondent Tom Llamas in October of 2018 at the same time of her first solo international trip touring four countries in Africa.

Being Melania – The First Lady,” a special edition of ABC’s ’20/20,’ she revealed her decision to wear a casual camo Zara jacket with a with message written on the back reading, “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” during her trip to McAllen, Texas, to visit a migrant children’s shelter. Melania told Llamas that she wore the jacket “as kind of a message, yes. It was not a message directed at children, but for the left-winged media who are criticizing me.”

“I want to show them [the media] that I don’t care,” Melania said. “I would prefer that they focus on what I do, and on my initiatives, than on what I wear. I am often asking myself — If I would not wear that jacket, would I have so much media coverage? It’s obvious I didn’t wear the jacket for the children. I wore the jacket to go on the plane.”

Llamas asked Melania during the interview: “What’s the worst thing you’ve had to read about yourself?”

“It’s all the things that people say, that I’m not happy in the White House; that I don’t even live there; that I’m miserable in my marriage, that I’m out of touch,” Melania replied. “There are so many things, I don’t even know where to start.”
