Elizabeth Warren Endorses Joe Biden For President

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) officially endorsed Joe Biden Wednesday morning, the third biggest endorsement for the former vice president this week.

The former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate tweeted out her endorsement with a video message, noting there was “too much at stake.”

“Joe Biden has spent nearly his entire life in public service,” Warren said in the 4 minute endorsement video. “He knows that a government run with integrity, competence, and heart will save lives and save livelihoods. And we can’t afford to let Donald Trump continue to endanger the lives and livelihoods of every American.”

“That’s why I’m proud to endorse Joe Biden as president of the United States,” she added. “And now, it’s up to all of us to help make Joe Biden the next president of the United States. Let’s get to work.”

The endorsement from Warren is the last of Biden’s top former Democratic rivals to throw their support behind the former vice president. The endorsement comes after Sen. Bernie Sanders and former President Barack Obama endorsed Biden this week, the latest sign that the presumptive nominee is attempting to to unify the Democratic Party for the general election against President Trump.

Warren remained silent after dropping out in early March, after a series of disappointing losses on Super Tuesday, including in her home state of Massachusetts. She refused to endorse either Biden or Sanders, saying she needed “some time.” The refusal to endorse Sanders cost her progressive ally any chance for a comeback as Biden went on to sweep the rest of the primaries that were held before the coronavirus pandemic. As time passed, Warren was asked about an endorsement, she publicly stated that her focus was now on the pandemic and wanted to give Sanders some “space to decide what he wants to do next.”

A leader in the progressive movement, Warren at one point was considered a top contender for the Democratic nomination last summer. She was fiercely critical of the former vice president, calling him a “Washington insider” and berating his record as a senator.

Warren alluded to their past clashes as she made the case for him, saying, “Among all the other candidates I competed with in the Democratic primary, there’s no one who I’ve agreed with 100% of the time over the years. But one thing I appreciate about Joe Biden is he will always tell you where he stands.”

Biden touted Warren’s endorsement on Twitter, saying he is proud to have the “fiercest of fighters” on his side.
