Former 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is continuing giving 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden her unsolicited advice, telling him do not concede “under any circumstance” on election night.
Speaking with former communications director Jennifer Palmieri for Showtime’s “The Circus,” Clinton predicted the final results in the upcoming election are “going to drag out,” with Biden coming out as the winner.
“Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances because I think this is going to drag out, and eventually I do believe he will win if we don’t give an inch and if we are as focused and relentless as the other side is,” Clinton said in a preview clip released Tuesday.
“So we’ve got to have a massive legal operation, I know the Biden campaign is working on that,” Clinton continued. “We have to have poll workers, and I urge people, who are able, to be a poll worker. We have to have our own teams of people to counter the force of intimidation that the Republicans and Trump are going to put outside polling places. This is a big organizational challenge, but at least we know more about what they’re going to do.”
Clinton predicted a “couple of scenarios” the Republicans will do to win the 2020 race, alleging the other party will try to “mess up absentee balloting” to gain “a narrow advantage in the Electoral College” on Election Day.
She mentioned Wisconsin’s primary that occurred in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in April as an example where Republicans “did everything they could to mess up voting.”
“But because courts had ordered absentee ballots to be counted if they were postmarked on election day, Democrats actually won some important races there,” Clinton said.
Last week during her remarks in the Democratic National Convention, Clinton said Trump would try to “sneak or steal” his way to a second term in office and urged voters to swell polls with “overwhelming” turnout to ensure there is no room for doubt.
Trump Campaign lawyer, Matthew Morgan rejected Clinton’s notion, saying the former 2016 Democratic rival was “unashamedly trying to lay the groundwork for Joe Biden to deny the election results when President Trump wins.”
Morgan said Democrats are “rushing to radically change the way Americans vote 70 days before a general election,” saying Democrats “believe they can sue their way to victory, and there’s no telling what other shenanigans Democrats will pull once polling locations are open.”
“Republicans will be ready to make sure the polls are being run correctly, securely, and transparently as we work to deliver the free and fair election Americans deserve,” Morgan added.
Clinton last week advised Biden during her MSNBC interview just less than 12 hours after he formally accepted the Democratic Party nomination, warning the former vice president to continue to stick to his message and “don’t get thrown off your game” with the barrage of attacks Trump will throw towards him, and to be prepared to debate “somebody, unlike anyone you’ve been involved with before in politics.”
“Try to get your message beyond the sort of reality show environment that [Trump] is trying to create so that the American people have an idea about why they would vote for you, not just against Donald Trump,” Clinton said.
“Be prepared on that debate stage to be standing there with somebody unlike anyone you’ve been involved with before in politics, someone who lies with impunity, who literally will say anything, try to throw you off your game,” she continued.
