Best Dressed Black Gowns From The 2018 Golden Globes

It was all black everything on the red carpet.

At the 2018 Golden Globes, Hollywood stars ditched the colorful attention-grabbing gowns to band together wearing black, a show of solidarity in protest against sexual harassment.

The black sartorial protest, according to Refinery 29, was staged to protest the harassment, assault, and victims of sexual misconduct following the Harvey Weinstein scandal. The united fashion front became known as #TimesUp movement — “to join together as a united front that screams loudly to the world ‘We are not going to stand for the inequality, for the injustices, for the “lesser-than” treatment. We will no longer be silent.’ Time’s up for the patriarchy. Time’s up for the abuse. Yes, they will be wearing black, but they will still be as beautiful and glamorous as years before, because they are rising triumphantly into what will hopefully be a new era in Hollywood.”

Despite the sea of black, some stars stood out and looked stunning. Whether it was the dramatic style, or the embellished details, it was solid proof that fashion can help make a political statement.

No matter how one feels about Hollywood stars, or what their political affiliation is, this year Golden Globes made a statement and will go down in history as one of the most dramatic political statement in awards season history. Fashion has no political affiliation and this is the main reason Political Fashion has gathered the best dressed black gowns seen in the red carpet.

Read on to see Political Fashion pick for best gowns worn, because they deserve your attention for all the right fashionable reasons.

Kendall Jenner was by far my favorite black gown seen in the red carpet. The supermodel made her first debut wearing a strapless gown by Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Couture gown that featured a dramatic train and shorter front.
Mandy Moore made a striking statement wearing Rosie Assoulin Fall 2017. The halter-style gown a had a cape-like quality, detailed with a bold red waistband. However, this dress had the best feature detail ever — pockets!
Dakota Johnson walked the red carpet in a glittery black Pre-Fall 2018 Gucci gown with a flowing train. The front of the black velvet Gucci gown was simple, featuring spaghetti straps and a silver buckle at her waist. But, when Dakota turned around, she revealed the back of the dress that blew everyone away. The back featured a gigantic silver star crystal-embellished bow design with silver beaded lines that fell toward the bottom of her skirt.
The red carpet Queen Angelina Jolie walked the red carpet wearing a custom-made Atelier Versace gown that featured a dramatic ostrich feather cuffs and sheer shoulders.
Caitriona Balfe wore Chanel couture seen in the Fall 2017 Haute Couture. The silk long ruffled hem black dress caught fashion eyes with the chain-link straps and feathered arm cuffs, a classically feminine that she pulled off brilliantly.
Heidi Klum dress was a showstopper wearing a Mohammed Ashi Studio Fall 2017 Couture high-low feathered gown.
Salma Hayek kept it simple with a long slimming long sleeve Balenciaga dress, pairing it with a Harry Winston necklace.
Catwalk Queen Naomi Campbell retained her stylish reputation wearing a one-shoulder floor length Jean Paul Gaultier custom gown that featured panels of frill dramatic detail with strips of fabric elegantly trailing the floor.
Millie Bobby Brown wore a black high ruffle neckline silk mini dress from Calvin Klein by Appointment dress. The back of her structured dress featured a cutout was as stunning as the front, a perfect mix of edgy and chic. This 13 year old beauty really stole the show with her gown by pairing it glittery Repossi jewelry matching her sparkly Calvin Klein heels.
Kerry Washington wore a black sequin strapless dress designed by Prabal Gurung. She paired the gown with Roger Vivier floral and pearls embellished booties, an edgy rebellious style that is hardly ever seen in the red carpet.
Lily James wore floor-length gown from the Valentino Fall 2017 Couture design that featured a ruffled neckline and hem.
Jessica Biel sparkled the Red Carpet wearing a Christian Dior Haute Spring 2017 Couture gown. Merging old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist, the black sheer sleeveless gown featured a black velvet moon embellishment with a nude pleated underlay.
Diana Kruger wore a Prada black tulle gown complete with a dramatic cascading shawl train that was covered in faceted gunmetal beading.
Catherine Zeta Jones stunned the red carpet with her sex appeal. The actress wore a semi-sheer embroidered Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture gown. The long-sleeve floor-length featured a plunging A-line neckline and stunning sheer lace that showed off her legs.

I had planned to do a post on the worst dressed of the Golden Globes, but the political fashion statement behind wearing black to show unity against sexual harassment was so powerful that I decided to skip out on criticizing anyone. Make no mistake, there were several dresses and outfits that were so hideous and the Joan Rivers in me was screaming to comment. Next time promise.
